  • If bad guys like hacker and cybercriminals find a new way to break into a system that is running Windows XP or Microsoft Office 2003, there won’t be any support to prevent it. Normally, when they find a new way or security researchers find a way or vulnerability in a system, they will release an update to address that issue. When you apply those updates, that bad guys couldn’t harm you anymore. When you don’t get any update your PC will become at risk of compromising by Hackers and other cybercriminals.

  • Other software products might stop their supports for Windows XP and you might not be able to use new version of most software.

  • If there is a technical problem or error in the system, there won’t be any fix or support for it. There might be unofficial supports and help from forums or achieve data but there is no formal or official way to resolve new problems.

You will be at high risk if in your company there are many PCs which are running Windows XP, because cybercriminals would definitely come after you and since there is no update for your operating system, they could gain complete access to it, which might bring a large damage to your company. For home users, it is an important matter, nobody wants their PC compromised by hackers and cybercriminals.

Windows 8 is fundamentally secure and there are several security features inside Windows 8 that are not available in Windows XP, like Bitlocker, AppLocker, two-ways firewall, etc. If you are a student, ask your faculty and you might get a free or discounted version of Windows 8.

Same applies for Microsoft Office 2003, cybercriminals could send you a Microsoft Office document, like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and if you open it your PC might get infected or compromise, such a scenario been address through Microsoft Update and if you don’t get new updates your PC would be at risk.
