Anti-Virus for Windows 8 Developer Preview

Windows 8 Developer Preview is out there and some of you might already try it out or you are planning to download it. To download Windows 8 Developer Preview makes sure that you only download it from Microsoft website no other websites, to make sure that you download a trusted and secure Windows 8 Developer Preview. Speaking of new Windows, you might ask that what Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware I could download in Windows 8. It is issue because without Anti-Virus you PC could be at risk and Malware (Virus, Worm, Trojan…) could damage your system. The interesting part is that in Windows 8 Developer Preview you already have Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware there. You don’t have to worry about and ask what Anti-Virus I should install in Windows Developer Preview. If you want to check if your security in system is fine, then for Windows XP and Windows Vista you would check Windows Security Center in Control Panel and for Windows 7, you would check Action Center. If you remember the first time that you installed your Windows, it will warn you that Anti-Virus software didn’t find and you should go and find one for yourself and install it and also you would ask which Anti-Virus I should use. In Windows 8 Developer Preview, you don’t have to be worry about it, if you already installed Windows 8, go to Control Panel in classic view (not metro style) and then chose Action Center and you will see name of Windows Defender under Anti-Spyware and Anti-Malware. Windows Defender in Windows 8 Developer Preview would protect you against Malware and Spyware and you don’t need any other Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware. Note that Windows Defender is Anti-Spyware ONLY for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, however it is Anti-Spyware + Anti-Malware in Windows 8 Developer Preview, it is exception that in Windows 8 Developer Preview Anti-Malware & Anti-Spyware is called Windows Defender. One of the good thing of it , is that you don’t have to be worry about Spyware and Viruses and you only need to make sure your system keep getting update that you could check it by seeing Windows Update and connecting to internet to get latest update. Note that this version of Windows 8 is pre-Beta, which means that there are still a long way until it been finalized and release and during this time other Anti-Virus companies would definitely work to develop new products that work perfectly with Windows 8 once it been released. Another thing is that you should take a note that it is for pre-Beta version and you might need to install Anti-Virus for future version of Windows 8, since it was developer preview , whoever using Windows 8 shouldn’t be worry about Virus and Spyware and only concentrate on enjoy it or develop application or pass some feedbacks.

Another question is that, how about my older version of Anti-Virus? You might want to use different brand or different Anti-Virus, what should we do? In that case, you could try to download version for Windows 7 in your Windows 8 PC and see how its goes and take a note of errors and issues. Since this version of Windows 8 is pre-Beta, you might have some compatibility issues and risk of using Anti-Virus is on your own, since they haven’t been officially supported. In that case, if you really want to use different Anti-Virus, my suggestion is that contact the Anti-Virus manufacturer and let them know, they could advise you better about whether to use their product in Windows 8 or wait until some compatible version be release. You might also get chance to join in some beta program from Anti-Virus company to help them to check issues with their Anti-Virus.

And lastly, Microsoft Security Essentials is NOT compatible with Windows 8 Developer Preview, since you already have Windows Defender that act as Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware in Windows 8. Windows Defender in Windows 8 almost has the same engine as Microsoft Security Essentials for detecting Malware and Spyware.
